    Melanotan 2 (also referred to as Melanotan II) is a synthetically produced variant of a peptide hormone naturally produced in the body that stimulates melanogenesis, a process responsible for pigmentation of the skin. This peptide hormone, called alpha-Melanocyte stimulating hormone or MSH, activates certain melanocortin receptors in the process of exerting its effects. Indeed, MSH also exerts potent influence over lipid metabolism, appetite, and sexual libido via these melanocortin receptors. As a result, Melanotan 2 has been shown in studies to exhibit appetite suppressant, lipolytic, and libido-enhancing effects in addition to promoting skin tanning. Melanotan 2 has been researched extensively for use in protecting against the harmful effects of ultraviolet radiation from sunlight due to its melanogenesis-stimulating properties.

    Additionally, Melanotan 2 and a similar synthetically produced variant, known as PT-141, have been studied at length as a potential remedy for the treatment of sexual dysfunction; specifically, male erectile dysfunction.

    Effects

    Melanotan is related to a hormone called "melanocyte-stimulating hormone" that exists in our bodies. The amount of skin-darkening pigments produced rises due to this hormone. Non-selectively imitating the effects of melanocortin peptides is melanotan II. These are organic hormones that affect the cardiovascular system, the immune system, inflammation, energy homeostasis, pigmentation, and sexual function. Similar to melanotan I (afamelanotide), melanotan II increases eumelanin synthesis, resulting in skin darkening (tanning). Melanotan encourages the body to produce more melanin, which results in a rich, natural tan. By raising the body's melanin content, the body is attempting to protect itself against excessive sun exposure. Your body's natural defense against UV damage is melanin. The skin eventually becomes darker as a result. Melanotan II is often given as a liquid injection beneath the skin, typically every other day. The tanning effect can start occurring after 5 dosages, according to studies.

     

    Melanotan may also induce penile erections by working on the brain. Male erections were discovered to be strongly stimulated by melanotan II during clinical trials for its usage as a tanning agent. Bremelanotide, a brand-new medication based on melanotan II, was created to benefit from this characteristic.
